Sabbath Returns for Ozzfest 2001
February 5 -- Black Sabbath may have said 'goodbye' at the end of 1999 — but that was in England, and Ozzfest is a North American tour.
The pioneering metal quartet will reunite once again to lead this year's Ozzfest, the fifth edition of the summer hard rock tour. Joining the quartet will be Marilyn Manson, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Disturbed.
Manson, who played the first Ozzfest tour in 1997, and Slipknot, which played in 1999, are both up for this year's Best Metal Performance Grammy award. Papa Roach is contending for the title of Best New Artist.
The package tour is expected to hit around 30 cities, beginning with a June 8 show at the World Theater in Chicago.
Additional dates, as well as information about tickets and supporting bands, will be announced in the coming weeks.
This will be the third Ozzfest headlined by the original Black Sabbath lineup — singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. After headlining the festival in 1999, the band played a European farewell tour, capped by two shows in the band's hometown, Birmingham, England.
