'J.Lo' Tops Album Charts
L O S A N G E L E S, Jan. 31 -- It's Jennifer Lopez week in the United States.
With her latest movie ruling the box office and hereye-popping image plastered on the covers of leading magazines,the singer-actress also topped the pop album charts todayas her new release, J.Lo, broke the eight-week grip of theBeatles.
Her record label claims this is the first time in history that a female artist has topped both the album and box office chart at the same time.
Lopez's second Epic Records album debuted with sales of morethan 272,000 copies to crown the Billboard 200 for the week endedJan. 28, Billboard.com said today, reporting figures fromalbum-tracker SoundScan.
J.Lo wrested control of the pop charts from the Beatles'compilation album 1, a collection of the Fab Four's No. 1 hits,which in its first eight weeks of release sold nearly 6 millioncopies in the United States.
One Cloud Amid the Silver Linings …
Lopez's pop triumph comes as she stars with MatthewMcConaughey in the romantic comedy The Wedding Planner, whichgrossed about $14 million its first weekend in theaters to claimthe No. 1 spot at the North American box office.
But it is not all wine and roses for Lopez, whose rap starboyfriend Sean "Puffy" Combs, went on trial in New York oncharges of gun possession and bribery amid reports, denied by thecouple, that they were parting ways.
Die-hard fans can also see Lopez posing in scantwoman-warrior garb on the cover of Rolling Stone, with theheadline "Jennifer Lopez Rules."
