January 3 -- List of Grammy Nominees

Destiny's Child and rapper-producer Dr. Dre nabbed five nominations each for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards. Unlike last year, when veteran guitarist Santana received a remarkable 10 nominations, this year, the distribution is fairly even. Rapper Eminem and R&B singer Joe each received four nominations, and a large number of artists Madonna, 'N Sync, U2, Steely Dan, Don Henley, and newcomer Jill Scott scored three nods each.

Four of the nominations for Destiny's Child were in recognition of their hit "Say My Name" the tune will be up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group, and Best R&B Song.

For the two songwriting awards, LaShawn Daniels, Fred Jerkins III, Rodney Jerkins, Beyoncé Knowles, LeToya Luckett, LaTavia Roberson, and Kelendria Rowland are all credited, though both Luckett and Roberson were kicked out of the quartet during the band's tumultuous past year. The ex-members had filed a lawsuit against the band and its management, but the suits against remaining members Knowles and Rowland were dropped recently.

Group leader Knowles also received a fifth nomination for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, with "Independent Women, Part I," which was featured in Charlie's Angels.

Dr. Dre earned two nominations for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Forgot About Dre" and "The Next Episode," with his protégés Eminem and Snoop Dogg, respectively. He also landed a nomination for Best Rap Album for 2001 and two nominations for his work as a producer.

Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP will compete against his mentor's album, as expected, but it also received a nomination in the general category of Album of the Year, where it will compete against Beck's Midnite Vultures, Radiohead's Kid A, Paul Simon's You're the One, and Steely Dan's Two Against Nature.

Competing for Best Record with Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" will be Macy Gray's "I Try," Madonna's "Music," 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye," and U2's "Beautiful Day."
