'Family Values' Postponed
Sept. 13 -- Maybe the politicians are right — apparently America doesn't have time for family values these days.
At least, not for the Family Values tour. The third annual road trip has been postponed until early 2001, according to John Scher of Metropolitan Entertainment, co-producers of the tour, along with the Firm and Korn. The news was revealed in today’s Billboard Bulletin.
Heavy touring traffic this fall by the type of hard rock acts that have been the bread and butter of the first two Family Values outings is being blamed for the shelved package. Marilyn Manson, Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots, Pantera, and Godsmack are all hitting the road — or threatening to — in the coming months. Acts for the latest incarnation of Family Values remain unannounced.
Limp Bizkit CompetitionAnother factor could be direct competition from a party inside the Family Values camp. According to a report in today’s online edition of U.K. music rag NME, Limp Bizkit is taking a package tour with Eminem and DMX, plus openers Xzibit and Papa Roach, to a series of 10-15,000 capacity venues in November and December.
The Family Values tour has played in integral part in Limp Bizkit’s rise to the top. Last year’s tour, with Bizkit headlining a bill including Filter, Staind, Primus, Crystal Method, Redman, and Method Man, grossed $10.6 million. Bizkit also got key national exposure on the 1998 Korn-headlined tour, featuring Rammstein, Orgy, and Ice Cube, which raked in $6.5 million.
