Dolly Parton musical featuring her life, songs coming to Broadway
A musical about legendary singer Dolly Parton's life and music is coming to Broadway this winter.
"This isn't about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside," Parton said in a video message announcing the move to Broadway. "It's about where I really come from -- where I've lived, what I've lost, what I've loved, and how I found my way and told it in my own words -- and through the music, it's been part of me every step of the journey."
She said the project has been a "dream come true" for her.

"Dolly: A True Original Musical" will open at the St. James Theatre in New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2027, Parton's 81st birthday, and previews are scheduled to start Monday, Dec. 7, 2026.
The stage show will feature some of Parton's greatest hits, such as "9 to 5," "I Will Always Love You," "Jolene," and "Coat of Many Colors," as well as original songs she wrote especially for the production.
Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, who directed the musical's Nashville run, will also direct the Broadway version.
"Dolly has never really shared her story before. She's offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words," Sher said in part in a statement. "As we prepare to come to Broadway, we're thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story."
"Dolly: A True Original Musical" had a sold-out run in Nashville at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on the Belmont University campus last summer.
Tickets for the upcoming Broadway musical will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. ET but a pre-sale will be available starting Thursday at 10 a.m. ET. To sign up for the pre-sale, which is also available for Capital One and Discover credit cardholders, fans can visit DollyMusical.com.
