'Wheel of Fortune' announces new gameplay for season 44
"Wheel of Fortune" is introducing a new gameplay twist when it returns for season 44.
The long-running game show will debut a rapid-fire game called "Fortune Frenzy," co-hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White revealed in an interview aired Tuesday on "Good Morning America."
The new game will take place at the beginning of the show and give contestants the chance to win $1,000 for each puzzle they solve.
"A lot of people say, 'How do you get more games into the show?'" Seacrest told ABC News' Will Reeve. "That's not a long show, so we're squeezing more gameplay in at the top of the show with a rapid fire game that we just started to add, which I love."
Seacrest said the faster gameplay may also help contestants overcome their nerves at the start of the show.
"I think it shakes off the nerves of the contestants at the top because they're so excited," he said. "The adrenaline is pumping and rushing, and they've got to focus right into playing the game."
White added, "There's nothing else to think about but solve that puzzle. It's got to be quick."
Season 44 marks Seacrest's and White's third season together on "Wheel of Fortune."
Seacrest took over hosting duties from longtime host Pat Sajak in 2024. Looking back on stepping into the role, Seacrest said he initially felt pressure taking over a show that has been on television for decades.
"When I started, obviously there's a lot of pressure. This is a show that we've all had in our lives for so long, and I respect that," Seacrest said.
Now, Seacrest said one of his favorite parts of the job is meeting the contestants.
"I always get excited to do the show," he said. "Giving away the money is super fun. But meeting the people, I love hearing their stories and getting to know them."
"Wheel of Fortune" season 44 premieres Sept. 14.
