Winner of Office Cubicle Competition
C H A R L O T T E S V I L L E, Va., April 9 -- The woman with the most fabulous cube in the country is Robin Jones of PRA International.
Jones turned her cube into a tropical paradise a few years ago. Her inspiration began with an oversized palm tree cup she received as a gift.
"I used the cup as my water bottle at work and the looks and smiles I got in company meetings and at the water cooler started me on a path to a tropical paradise," Jones said in her entry for Good Morning America's "Office Cubicle Challenge" series. "My cube has become a pleasant escape from hectic business meetings and tight project timelines."
When GMA asked viewers to send in pictures and video tapes of their office cubicles, they responded with a lot of enthusiasm.
The cubicles went from feminine and flowery to strange and scientific. One entry came from a cube-dweller who wallpapered the partitions with pictures of Elvis. Another one included a collage of lightning photos.
Most people who sent pictures and video of their cubes said they decorated their office space because they wanted to cheer things up.
Workers spend many hours in their work space and they want it to be a more colorful place.
GMA was most impressed with Jones' cube and she says even happier at PRA, a global clinical development organization, now that she's created her own personal paradise there.
"I have a passion for decorating and I loved planning and collecting items for my cube escape," Jones said.
"The biggest challenge has been working within the fire code — nothing above the cubicle walls. My cubicle has become the talk of the office."
After Jones was announced the winner on Good Morning America, Weathercaster Tony Perkins presented her with a basket full of tropical-themed gifts, including margarita mix — sans the alcohol.
