Tecovas made a limited run of snakeskin cowboy boots from invasive pythons, and we want them all
Cowboy boot maker Tecovas has released a new collection of killer cowboy boots made from the skin of invasive pythons that are ravaging the Everglades, and we're drooling over every single pair.
The brand has been teasing this launch all week on Instagram, showcasing the stories of Everglades leather worker Elle Barbeito and local authorized python hunters who work diligently to responsibly cull the population and restore the native species' ability to thrive.
"Invasive Burmese pythons have become part of a much larger story, one of consequence, removal, land stewardship, and what can be made from something that does not belong," Tecovas said in a press release.
These pythons became a problem around the time the exotic pet boom of the 1980s and 1990s really got going. According to the Florida Museum, Hurricane Andrew in 1992 likely exacerbated the issue when a breeding facility was destroyed and allowed the snakes housed within to escape into the wild.
This launch joins other efforts in the area to help reduce those numbers responsibly while making use of the snakes killed.
"We're proud to work with authorized python hunters and trusted partners at every step, from responsible removal and documentation to tanning, grading, and bootmaking," Tecovas said in its press release. "Together, we're supporting ongoing removal efforts and making fuller use of each animal."
This limited run of shoes and accessories marks the brand's first foray into invasive leather and includes four pairs of men's and one pair of women's cowboy boots, as well as four pairs of women's sandals, two belts and one hat belt. Prices range from $60 to $745, and pieces are already starting to sell out, so buy now or miss out for good!
