Sept. 24 -- Things are definitely looking up for Bob Guiney, the boyishly handsome jokester who did an Irish jig to try to woo Trista Rehn in The Bachelorette, but ultimately walked away with no more than a goodbye kiss.

The 32-year-old mortgage broker from Detroit is the new star of ABC's romantic reality series The Bachelor, and he's anything but the dumpee now.

In the season premiere, the women hoping to win Guiney chant "Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob," as they pull up in a limousine. The network received 15,000 applications from women around the country interested in dating him, and whittled the field down to 25 for the first show, which airs tonight.

Guiney said he did ultimately choose one of the women he meets on the show, but of course, could divulge no more.

"My outlook on things is that I didn't want to overpromise and underdeliver in any way. I'm happy with the outcome," Guiney said on ABCNEWS' Good Morning America.

Guiney was carrying a few extra pounds during his Bachelorette stint, but has since dropped a whopping 36 pounds, thanks to a regime of running and playing sports.

"I was able to get back to my normal weight playing basketball. It's not a conscious effort which is what I think is the best way to go about it," Guiney said.

In his days on The Bachelorette, Guiney was quick with the jokes, easing the tension among the bachelors, who shared the same house and vied for the affections of the same woman, Rehn. She ultimately chose poetry-writing firefighter Ryan Sutter, and the couple are planning a televised wedding this winter.

The new Bachelor's mother, Nora Guiney, who runs a publishing company, makes a guest appearance on the show to meet the women competing for her son's affections.

She says she can't wait to see what happens in the end.

"Bob calls me 'Chatty Kathy' so he didn't tell me," Nora Guiney said. "He said he will protect me from me by not telling me. I don't know, but the ladies I met were wonderful."
