At least 11 dead in mass shooting at house party in South Africa, police say

LONDON -- At least 11 people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and three others were wounded in a mass shooting at a house party in South Africa on Tuesday night, police said.

A group of people had gathered at a house for a party in KwaMakhutha township, some 19 miles south of Durban on South Africa's east coast, when three armed men arrived and allegedly opened fire on them on Tuesday night, according to the South African Police Service.

Police said Wednesday morning that a manhunt has been launched for the suspects and no arrests have been made yet.

A motive for the shooting was unknown and remains under investigation, but police noted that some of the victims were on their radar in connection with criminal activity. 

"Although the motive of the shooting cannot be confirmed yet, feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out," the South African Police Service said in a statement Wednesday.
