US energy secretary says record 17 million barrels of oil passed through Strait of Hormuz on Monday
Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced 17 million barrels of oil transited the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, saying it marked the highest level of crude oil to pass through the waterway since the conflict with Iran began.
"I can announce right now that yesterday, through the Strait of Hormuz, over 17 million barrels of oil flowed, the record since before the conflict," Wright told reporters late Tuesday evening from Venezuela.
