Mojtaba Khamenei chosen as Iran's next supreme leader, Iranian state media reports

He is the son of assassinated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israel strikes attack targeting military and government sites, officials said.

Iranian state television confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed by airstrikes in Tehran on the first day of strikes. His successor is yet to be named.

Iran is responding to the operation with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, regional U.S. bases and multiple Gulf nations. Israel is also intensifying its long-running strike campaign against the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

IDF releases video of Iranian jet shot down over Tehran

The Israel Defense Forces on Thursday published a video of what it said was the shooting down of an Iranian Yak-130 fighter jet over Tehran on Wednesday.

An Israeli F-35 "Adir" fighter jet was responsible, the IDF said.

Azerbaijan says drones attacked city close to Iran border

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that drones attacked the city of Nakhchivan, just north of the country's border with Iran.

One drone hit the city's airport, injuring two civilians, the ministry said. A second drone hit a school building in a nearby village, it added.

"We strongly condemn these drone attacks launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the ministry said, and demanded a "clear explanation."

Israel says 145 remain hospitalized from conflict with Iran

Israel's Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday that 145 people are still hospitalized with injuries related to the ongoing war with Iran.

A total of 1,473 people were evacuated to hospitals since the fighting began on Saturday, the ministry said.

Four of the 145 people still hospitalized are in serious condition, 28 people are in moderate condition and 67 others are in good condition, the ministry said.

Qatar Airways to start limited number of relief flights

Qatar Airways said in a post to X that it would "start operating a limited number [of] relief flights" from Thursday "to support passengers who are stranded due to the current situation across the region."

The airline said the planned flights are from Muscat in Oman to London Heathrow, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome and Amsterdam. Also planned is a flight from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to Frankfurt.

Qatar Airways said that all other flight operations remain suspended due to the continued closure of Qatari airspace. Its next update is due on Friday, the airline said.
