Iran drone attack caused damage at British base in Cyprus, president says
Cyprus' President Nikos Christodoulides gave an address on Monday morning detailing the attack by an Iranian Shahed drone on a British air base on Sunday night.
The attack on the Akrotiri base in the southwest of the Mediterranean island caused "minor material damage," Christodoulides said.

"From the very beginning, all the competent services of the Republic have been on alert and in full operational readiness," the president said. "At the same time, I immediately convened the National Security Council to assess the situation, which remains in constant consultation."
"I want to be clear: Our country does not participate in any way and does not intend to be part of any military operation," he added.
The U.K. maintains permanent sovereign base areas in Cyprus, which includes Royal Air Force Akrotiri. The base has traditionally served as a hub for British operations in the Middle East.
