US service member killed, another wounded, CENTCOM says

The U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, said in a post to X on Sunday morning that Jordanian authorities evacuated the international airport and seaport in the Red Sea city of Aqaba "due to a specific and credible threat."

"We strongly advise all Americans to refrain traveling to either the airport or seaport. Continue to follow all Jordanian authorities' security directives," the embassy wrote. "U.S. Embassy Amman continues to advise all Americans to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan."

But Jordanian government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani said in a statement carried on Jordanian state media and social media on Sunday that no evacuation orders had been issued by the authorities at Aqaba airport or the port. No threats had been recorded, the spokesperson added.

In a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have intercepted four commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz in the early hours of Sunday.

The IRGC said all four ships turned off their navigation systems and ignored IRGC warnings with the "support of American" forces. "Two of them had an accident and stopped in place, and the other two refused to continue the route," the statement said.

The IRGC claimed that its navy was in "complete control" of the Strait.

Bahrain's Interior Ministry on Sunday morning confirmed that air alert sirens had sounded in the Gulf kingdom, urging residents "to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place."

The Bahrain Defence Force later confirmed that Iran had launched fresh aerial attacks on the kingdom.

The Kuwait Armed Forces' headquarters said in a post to X on Sunday morning that the Gulf nation's air defenses were "repelling missile and drone attacks in response to Iran's heinous aggression."
