Iran live updates: 8 Marines hurt in ship attack in Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump is rejecting reports that say he is open to offering Iran sanctions relief and releasing its frozen assets in exchange for progress toward a nuclear deal, posting on Monday that he's offered Iran "NOTHING."

Trump specifically responded to an Axios report about possible economic relief for Iran if they present concrete nuclear concessions, writing in a post on his social media platform that the story is “untrue,” and that they should "withdraw this fake story, IMMEDIATELY!"

When asked about the progress of Monday’s mediated talks between the U.S. and Iran, President Donald Trump said, "We're going to win this as far as I'm concerned. It's going to be one way or the other. It's going to be -- it's going to go pretty quickly, too."

Trump continued to promise gas prices would come down after the war with Iran ends.

"We have the best economic numbers we have. Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. We're going to win that war very, very soon. It'll be over. And the gas prices will come tumbling down," Trump said.

After President Donald Trump rejected a proposal from Iran over the weekend, U.S. officials said he remains open to offering the country sanctions relief and releasing its frozen assets in exchange for concrete progress toward a nuclear deal.

Trump confirmed U.S. and Iranian officials spoke via mediators on Monday.

The Trump administration has always said Iran would receive substantial financial rewards if it walked away from its nuclear program, and under June’s memorandum of understanding, the U.S. promised to roll back all sanctions as part of a verifiable, long-term nonproliferation deal. Iran has not indicated it’s willing to bring the nuclear issue into negotiations at this point.

Eight Marines were recently hurt in an Iranian attack on a ship operating in the Strait of Hormuz, though the injuries were not significant, a U.S. official confirmed to ABC News.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations tracked that a commercial vessel was struck by “an unknown projectile” on Sept. 14 and no injuries were reported at the time.

NBC News was first to report the previously undisclosed injuries to the Marines.

U.S. Central Command declined to comment on the report.
