Iran live updates: Iran says framework of Oman agreement finalized

Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei pushed back on President Donald Trump's claims of victory over Iran on Friday.

"Before you claim the 'spoils of war', you actually have to win the war—not get stuck in a strait, fall short of your stated (malign) objectives, run low on weapons, and lose credibility along the way. So far, the “spoils of Iran” amount to nothing more than a paper trophy for a victory that shows no sign of materializing," Baqaei said in a post on X.

The "general framework" of the agreement between Iran and Oman has been finalized, Hassan Ghashghavi, the spokesman of Iranian parliament's national security commission, said on Friday, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

"The final text and details will be announced soon," Ghashghavi said.

However, he added that implementation of the agreement is "subject to final approval at the highest decision-making levels."

As one Iranian official says that a deal between Iran and Oman on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is close, a U.S. official said any of the temporary routes agreed to will be "without any impediments" like tolls.

"Any temporary routes will be without any impediments — meaning no approvals or permissions and no tolls or charges. The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and no party controls the lanes or the ability to transit through them," a U.S. official said in a statement about the talks.

Despite accusations of leaks and tension between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Rome, U.S. officials said the seventh round of talks have concluded and were overall productive, with the two sides emerging closer than before.

“The talks are over and were productive on the technical and expert levels. The two sides are a lot closer on what needs to be done to advance and expand the pilot zone process," a State Department spokesperson said.
