Pakistan announces US-Iran talks 'in coming days'

The Trump administration sent a 15-point plan to end the war to Iran that was delivered via Pakistan, two sources familiar with the plan tell ABC News.

The sources said the plan addresses Iran's ballistic missile and nuclear programs as well as maritime routes, but would not provide any other details -- including which Iranian officials were sent the proposal. It is also unclear whether Israel has signed onto the proposal.

Iran continues to insist that no negotiations are underway.

The New York Times was the first to report the proposal.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, "As President Trump and his negotiators explore this newfound possibility of diplomacy, Operation Epic Fury continues unabated to achieve the military objectives laid out by the commander in chief and the Pentagon."

Fewer than 1,500 troops from the 82nd Airborne are set to deploy to the Middle East, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The source said the mobilization will include ground forces and a headquarters element, which oversees logistics and planning. The troops are expected to leave "soon," once they have received orders being developed Tuesday, the source said.

A brigade -- about 3,000 soldiers -- of the 82nd is constantly on standby as the Immediate Response Force, tasked to be able to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours.

The division specializes in seizing contested territory by parachuting out of airplanes. The 82nd is light infantry -- meaning they do not come with any tanks or other large vehicles.

The 82nd Airborne Division is based out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and co-located with Pope Air Force Base.

Iran has reported that a projectile hit the premises of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

"According to Iran, there was no damage to the NPP itself nor injuries to staff, and the condition of the plant is normal," the IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said in a post on X.

President Donald Trump said that the Iranian officials who have been negotiating have given the U.S. a "big present" related to the Strait of Hormuz that is worth "a tremendous amount of money," he said at the swearing in of his new Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.

The president did not disclose exactly what this "gift" was during his remarks in the Oval Office.

When pressed about the current negotiations, Trump insisted that he does not trust “anybody,” he said this “present” was a gesture that communicated to him “that we're dealing with the right people” regarding negotiations with Iran.

"They're going to make a deal. They did something yesterday that was amazing. Actually, they gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present, worth a tremendous amount of money, and I'm not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize," Trump said.
