Pakistan announces US-Iran talks 'in coming days'

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes attack targeting military and government sites, officials said.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed in Tehran on the first day of strikes, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei later chosen to succeed him. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, regional U.S. bases and multiple Gulf nations. Iran is also attempting to block some shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Israel is also intensifying its long-running strike campaign against the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon and expanding its ground operations in the south of the country.

Iran responds to US peace proposal

Iran responded to the Trump administration's 15 point plan through intermediaries overnight Thursday, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, which quoted an informed source.

According to Tasnim, Iran’s reply outlines several conditions, including an end to attacks and assassinations, guarantees the conflict will not be repeated, and compensation for war-related damages. It added that Tehran is seeking a comprehensive end to hostilities across all fronts, including groups aligned with Iran in the region.

Head of Navy Intelligence for IRGC killed, IDF says

The head of the Naval Intelligence for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was also "eliminated" in a strike on senior leadership of the IRGC Navy, the Israel Defense Forces said Thursday.

Behnam Rezaei was killed "alongside" IRGC Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri in a strike in Bander Abbas, the IDF said.

"Rezaei served as the Head of the IRGC Navy Intelligence Directorate for a number of years and constituted a central knowledge authority in maritime intelligence. As part of his role, Rezaei was responsible for intelligence collection on regional countries and led cooperation with various intelligence organizations," the IDF said in a statement.

Kremlin denies sending drones to Iran

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Thursday denied a Financial Times report suggesting that Russia is providing drones to Iran.

"There are a lot of fake news in the media right now. Even the most respected publications are not above publishing these false reports. Don't pay any attention to them," Peskov told reporters during a briefing.
