President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.

The U.S. and Iran again traded aerial strikes over the weekend, a back-and-forth that followed an Iranian attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, Washington said. The U.S. and Iran agreed on Sunday to stop those attacks and allow tankers to move freely through the strait, a U.S. official told ABC News.

Delegations from the United States and Iran entered negotiations this month aimed at a war-ending deal based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both countries.

Trump says team headed to Doha

President Donald Trump said on Monday that a U.S. team was heading to Doha, Qatar, amid reports from Iranian state media claiming that there would be no negotiations between U.S. and Iranian teams there.

Trump indicated the team was heading to Doha to discuss Iran's nuclear program during the meeting on Tuesday.

"I think they've already left, or they're just about getting ready to leave. So we'll see how that goes," Trump said while taking questions from reporters in the Oval Office. "But the meeting in Doha is going to be, perhaps important, perhaps not, we're gonna find out."

The president then said the war was "almost won militarily."

"It's really very simple. It's the denuclearization of Iran. We don't want them to have a nuclear weapon and they're not gonna have a nuclear weapon," Trump said.

Sources said a separate, classified briefing is expected later this week for members on relevant committees.

The House is in session this week with first votes Monday night. The Senate is on a two-week July 4 recess.
