Aerial attacks between Israel and Iran continued overnight into Monday, marking a fourth day of strikes following Israel's Friday attack. That surprise strike hit the heart of Iran's nuclear program, killing several nuclear scientists as well as high-ranking military leaders, according to Israeli officials.

The U.S. did not provide any military assistance or have any involvement in Israel's Friday strike, a U.S. official told ABC News. President Donald Trump told ABC News on Sunday, "It's possible we could get involved."

US told Israel President Trump opposed to plan to kill Iranian supreme leader

The U.S. communicated to the Israelis that President Trump is opposed to a plan to kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, adding that Iran has not killed an American and discussions of killing political leaders should not be on the table, according to a U.S. official.

The U.S. is not considering joining the war with Iran to eliminate its nuclear program, according to another U.S. official.

Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter, speaking Sunday to ABC News' "This Week," declined to rule out that Khamenei was a potential Israeli target, saying that "nobody who is threatening the destruction of Israel should be off the target list.”

Trump rejected Israeli plan to kill Iran's supreme leader, per US officials

President Donald Trump rejected an Israeli plan in recent days to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two U.S. officials told ABC News.

It's unclear if Trump conveyed the message directly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Reuters was the first to report the news.

Netanyahu was asked about the Reuters report in an interview on Sunday with Fox News.

“There's so many false reports of conversations that never happened and I'm not going to get into that. But I can tell you I think we do what we need to do, we’ll do what we need to do and the United States knows what is good for the United States and I'm just not going to get into it all that," Netanyahu stated.

The White House declined to comment on the report.
