1 dead, several injured after vehicle drives into crowd during Berlin LGBTQ celebrations

Police said a manhunt for a suspect or suspects was underway.

Police in Berlin said a manhunt was underway after a vehicle drove into a crowd during the city's LGBTQ celebrations Saturday, killing one person and injuring several others.

Berlin Police told ABC News that one person has died and 17 others were injured in the incident at Tiergarten Park, including several with life-threatening injuries.

"We are conducting an intensive search for possible suspects," a police officer said in a short video released on the Berlin police account on X.

Police said the driver of a white vehicle struck people on a footpath in the park in central Berlin shortly before 10 p.m. local time.

Hundreds of thousands of people had come to Berlin on Saturday to celebrate Christopher Street Day, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ celebrations, the Associated Press reported.

The police called off the rest of the celebrations for the night after the incident at the park.
