Trump shooting updates: Shooter flew drone 200 yards from site hours before shooting

Members of the House Homeland Security Committee announced Saturday they will visit the site of Trump’s July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-TX, will be joined by 10 members of the Homeland Security Committee for the visit Monday morning and there will be a media availability afterward.

This comes as the committee is investigating the security failures surrounding the attempted assassination of Trump.

Department of Homeland Security leadership, including DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, pushed back on those who are criticizing women on former President Donald Trump's security detail.

“In the days following the attempted assassination of former President Trump, some people have made public statements questioning the presence of women in law enforcement, including in the United States Secret Service," senior DHS leaders wrote in a statement. "These assertions are baseless and insulting."

The leaders called women in law enforcement "selfless patriots" who will make law enforcement better.

Authorities are investigating whether suspected shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks used a drone to surveil the rally site sometime before the shooting, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-TX, has subpoenaed Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for documents related to the assassination attempt on Trump, the committee said Friday.

The subpoena is for documents and information regarding the "failed security efforts," which Green had asked to receive by Friday, the committee said. The request includes the security plan for the site and communications regarding coordination efforts between DHS and local authorities.

The subpoena ordered Mayorkas to produce the materials to the committee by July 26.
