Trump admin updates: White House asks court to stay order to ground deportation flights

President Donald Trump was asked if he has a meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin scheduled after Wednesday's developments in Saudi Arabia.

"I won't. comment on that. But we had a great success yesterday," he said, referring to the 30-day ceasefire proposal agreed to by Ukraine.

"It's up to Russia now," Trump said. "But we've had a good relationship with both parties, actually. And we'll see. People are going to Russia right now as we speak. And hopefully we can get a ceasefire from Russia."

When a reporter noted that Putin has broken agreements in the past, Trump said the administration hasn't spoken to him yet "with substance."

"We haven't spoken to him yet with substance because we just found out and we just were able to get Ukraine to agree," he said. "So, we're going to know very soon. I've gotten some positive messages, but a positive message means nothing. This is a very serious situation."

President Donald Trump again went after Ireland for "taking advantage" of the U.S. economically by bringing up its pharmaceutical industry.

"I have great respect for Ireland for what they did and they should have done just what they did. But the United States shouldn't have let it happen. We had stupid leaders. We had leaders that didn't have a clue or let's say they were businesspeople, but they didn't have a clue what was happening," he said.

The president said he would have issued a 200% tariff on Ireland.

During a photo spray with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, President Donald Trump brought up tariffs and slammed Ireland for taking American pharmaceutical jobs.

"You took our pharmaceutical companies and other companies," he told the prime minister. "But, you know, through taxation and proper taxation, they made it very, very good for companies to move over there, and we had presidents and people that were involved in this that had no idea what they were doing."

Trump continued to push his tariffs against the European Union.

President Donald Trump was asked to discuss the massive layoffs at the Department of Education. He said he felt "very badly" but quickly claimed, without evidence, that many of its employees weren't going to work or doing a good job.

"Now, Department of Education, maybe more so than any other place, has a lot of people that can be cut," he said.

He praised Education Secretary Linda McMahon as doing a "very good job."

"We have a dream, the dream is we're going to move the Department of Education, we're going to move education into the states," he said.
