Trump admin updates: EU will buy $750 billion worth of U.S. energy under deal

While there are mixed signals about whether President Donald Trump plans to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has come to his defense in a new interview with Fox Business on Tuesday.

Bessent expressed his support for Powell amid ongoing criticism from Trump administration officials, stating that he sees no reason for the Federal Reserve chair to resign.

"There's nothing that tells me that he should step down right now. He's been a good public servant. His term ends in May. If he wants to see that through, I think he should," Bessent said.

"If he wants to leave early, I think he should, but I think there's a real chance here for him, for his legacy to be that he right-sized -- the non-monetary policy functions of the Fed," he added.

After granting a temporary stay that expires at midnight, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals decided President Donald Trump's administration can move forward with its plans to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for up to 11,700 Afghans and 5,200 Cameroonians.

TPS Afghans will expire at midnight, and protections for Cameroonians will expire on August 4.

In the two-page order, the court says the immigrant advocacy organization CASA has "stated a plausible claim for relief with regard to the alleged 'preordained' decision to terminate temporary protected status" for both countries. But the court said CASA has failed to provide sufficient evidence to warrant a postponement of the termination while the case continues in federal court.

Rep. Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y., will serve as the next chairman of the powerful Homeland Security Committee after the House Republican Steering Committee voted in his support on Monday night.

Garbarino is set to replace Rep. Mark Green, who resigned from Congress effective Monday. The full House GOP conference will vote to approve Garbarino as chair Tuesday morning.

The committee is tasked with oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, mainly focusing on President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.

Garbarino previously served as an impeachment manager against former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In a social media post on Monday evening, President Donald Trump quoted Iran's foreign minister about the destruction of Iranian nuclear sites, asserting that the sites are destroyed, but added that the U.S. would attack "again, if necessary!"

The president's comments came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Fox News that Tehran cannot give up on its nuclear enrichment program even as it was "severely damaged" in the U.S. attacks.

"It is stopped because, yes, damages are serious and severe. But obviously, we cannot give up on enrichment because it is an achievement of our own scientists. And now, more than that, it is a question of national pride," the foreign minister said.

On Truth Social, Trump reacted to Araghchi saying the damages were severe, writing "Of course they are, just like I said, and we will do it again, if necessary!"
