National Guard troops in DC are now armed, defense official says

President Donald Trump was asked in the Oval Office about security guarantees for Ukraine and whether that will involve the U.S.

"We'll let you know that maybe later today," Trump responded. "We're meeting with seven great leaders of great countries also, and we'll be talking about that. They'll all be involved, but there'll be a lot of -- there'll be a lot of help when it comes to security."

"They are first line of defense because they're there," Trump said of Europe before adding, "But we're going to help them. And also we'll be involved."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked President Donald Trump for the invitation in remarks from the Oval Office.

This marks the first time he is at the White House since Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of not being grateful enough of U.S. assistance.

Zelenskyy thanked Trump for his "personal efforts" to end the war. He also thanked first lady Melania Trump for a "peace letter" she gave to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Donald Trump was asked during the Oval Office spray if this is the end of the road for U.S. support for Ukraine if there is no deal made.

"I can never say that. It's never the end of the road. People are being killed, and we want to stop that. So I would not say it's the end of the road," Trump said.

He continued, "No, I think we have a good chance of doing it."

President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are now in the Oval Office for bilateral talks.

Trump said Monday's meeting was "very important" and thanked Zelenskyy for being in Washington.
