The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to ABC News that it issued new guidance to pause most raids on farms, restaurants, and hotels, after President Trump earlier this week shifted his stance on targeting undocumented workers in those industries.

Meanwhile, a massive military parade to mark the Army's 250th birthday will be underway Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Hegseth questioned about costs for Marine, National Guard deployment to LA

Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., came back to the military deployments to L.A. and asked how much it cost and what resources were being taken away by the move.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth repeatedly did not answer the question, and brought up the 2020 Minneapolis George Floyd protests, claiming that local police did not do enough to prevent budget damage.

"... ICE agents should be allowed to be safe and do their operations. And we have deployed the National Guard and the Marines to protect them in the execution of their duties," Hegseth said as he went on a back-and-forth with the congresswoman.

McCollum repeated her question about the budget on the L.A. deployments.

"What training missions aren't happening? Where are you pulling the money from, and how are you planning this in moving forward? These are budget questions that affect this committee and the decisions we're going to be making in a couple of hours," she said.

Hegseth focuses opening statement on 'warfighting' mission, doesn't address controversies

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth focused his opening statement Tuesday on the Pentagon's budget and how it will support the administration's military goals, primarily "warfighting" capabilities.

"To carry out the president's mission, we have three core priorities: restore the warrior ethos, rebuild our military and reestablish deterrence," Hegseth said.

The defense secretary did not address any of the controversies regarding his use of Signal to discuss military plans to strike Houthi rebels in Yemen, or the administration's recent decision to deploy the National Guard and Marines amid protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids despite objections from state leadership.

Hegseth slammed for LA deployments

Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., slammed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for his actions and the responses the Trump administration made during the ongoing Los Angeles ICE protests.

McCollum, the ranking member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, said Trump calling the National Guard was "escalatory" and that deploying Marines was uncalled for.

Trump and Hegseth to travel to Fort Bragg

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, after his testimony on Capitol Hill, will join President Donald Trump on a trip to Fort Bragg to celebrate the Army's 250th birthday.

Trump will observe a military demonstration before delivering remarks at 4 p.m. ET.

The event comes as Trump deploys the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles over protests against his administration's immigration crackdown. The show of military force comes over objections from California's Democratic leaders.
