Trump creates task force to make D.C. ‘Safe and Beautiful’
Trump signed an executive order creating a D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force focused on fighting crime in Washington, DC., and directing new efforts to "beautify" the city.
The order's aim is to "make Washington, D.C. what it should be -- the pride of every American to whom it belongs."
The task force will be chaired by the Homeland Security adviser and include representatives from the departments of Interior, Transportation and Homeland Security, as well as the FBI, U.S. Marshals, ATF, and U.S. sttorney's offices for D.C., Maryland, and the Eastern District of Virginia.

According to the White House, it will be tasked with:
- Ensuring "maximum enforcement" of federal immigration law and redirecting federal, state or local law enforcement to "apprehend and deport illegal aliens" in the D.C. area.
- Monitoring DC's sanctuary city status and compliance with enforcement of federal immigration law.
- Work to increase the speed and lower the cost of processing concealed carry license requests.
- Work with local government to help end fare evasion and other crimes within D.C.’s public transportation system.
- Surge law enforcement into public areas to "strictly enforce quality-of-life laws in public areas" like drug use, unpermitted demonstrations, vandalism, and public intoxication.
