Trump says 3rd term isn't a joke, despite term limit

The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to urgently lift Judge James Boasberg's temporary block on deportations of alleged Tren de Aragua gang members under the Alien Enemies Act.

"Only this Court can stop rule-by-TRO from further upending the separation of powers—the sooner, the better," acting solicitor general Sarah Harris writes in an emergency application to the Court. "Here, the district court’s orders have rebuffed the President’s judgments as to how to protect the Nation against foreign terrorist organizations and risk debilitating effects for delicate foreign negotiations."

The appeal follows Wednesday's 2-1 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upholding Boasberg's order and defending his jurisdiction in the matter.

The law firm Jenner and Block filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration Friday seeking to block an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last week that targeted its attorneys' security clearances and essentially shuttered any interactions with the federal government.

"The Order threatens not only Jenner, but also its clients and the legal system itself," the firm said Friday in its lawsuit. "Our Constitution, top to bottom, forbids attempts by the government to punish citizens and lawyers based on the clients they represent, the positions they advocate, the opinions they voice, and the people with whom they associate."

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in D.C. Friday, accuses the Trump administration of engaging in a sweeping campaign to intimidate major law firms that either represented or once counted among its ranks individuals whom he has labeled his political enemies.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in an opinion piece published by the New York Times, blasted President Donald Trump for "a string of self-inflicted wounds … that are squandering America's strength and threatening our national security."

Clinton, Trump's 2016 presidential election opponent, called out this week's Signal chat controversy, criticized the Pentagon's moves to remove diversity initiatives and slammed layoffs at intelligence agencies. She also critiqued Trump for "cozying up to dictators" like Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"In a dangerous and complex world, it's not enough to be strong. You must also be smart," she wrote.

"The Trump approach is dumb power. Instead of a strong America using all our strengths to lead the world and confront our adversaries, Mr. Trump's America will be increasingly blind and blundering, feeble and friendless," Clinton added.

President Donald Trump's Friday schedule includes a 1 p.m. ET swearing in ceremony for Alina Habba, his personal attorney-turned-White House counselor, to be the interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.

After that, the president will depart the White House for Mar-a-Lago.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance are traveling to Greenland. The trip was set to include several cultural events but has since been scaled back amid heavy criticism given the administration's posture the U.S. should own and control the Danish territory.
