BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Keldric Luster found Alex Scherle for a 2-point conversion to lift Ball State to a dramatic 32-31 overtime win over Bowling Green on Saturday.
The Cardinals (2-5, 1-2 Mid-American Conference), who hadn't won a road game in nearly two years, a span of 14 games, matched an Austyn Dendy 4-yard touchdown run to start overtime with a 1-yard score by TJ Horton. Then they elected to go for the improbable win considering the final minute of regulation.
The Cardinals led a majority of the game but Bowling Green tied the game at 17 with 1:12 to go when Jay Kastantin capped an 80-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Eli Jacon-Duffy. On the next play, Luster scrambled for 10 yards before the ball was knocked loose at the 35 and D'kyah Banks swooped in to grab the ball and continued around the right end for the lead with 1:01 left.
Luster then directed a seven-play, 78-yard drive, before finding Eli Hohlt wide open on the right side of the end zone. The ball was snapped with five seconds to go and Bowling Green had six defensive backs lined up on the goal line.
Luster was 16-of-24 passing for 195 yards and added another 125 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Horton had 86 yards rushing and two TDs.
Kastantin was 17 of 24 for 215 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns.
Ball State: Home against Sacramento State next Saturday.
Bowling Green: At Buffalo next Saturday.
