Airport Check-in: Atlanta's airport is world's busiest in '07
— -- Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson, which served 89 million passengers last year, was the world's busiest airport in 2007, says Geneva-based Airports Council International in a report released last week. Chicago O'Hare ranked second, with 76 million.
London Heathrow, with 68 million, was the busiest non-U.S. airport. Counting only international traffic, the world's five busiest airports are London Heathrow (62 million), Paris Charles de Gaulle (55 million), the Netherlands' Amsterdam (48 million), Germany's Frankfurt (47 million) and Hong Kong (46 million).
Nearly 4.8 billion passengers arrived at and departed from the world's airports in 2007, a growth of 6.8% from 2006. The fastest growth in passengers occurred in the Middle East, with an 11.3% increase. That was followed by Africa (11.2%) and Asia-Pacific (9.1%). The North American region showed the slowest growth at 3.5%.

900-space parking lot opens at John Wayne
John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., has opened a new parking lot with 900 spaces. Parking Lot C is located on Airport Way, just southwest of Terminal B. Free shuttle service to the terminal will be provided. It will add 200 more spaces in 2009.
The lot was built partly to make up for Parking Structure B1, which will be demolished in September to make room for the new Terminal C. When completed in 2011, the 250,000-square foot Terminal C will have six aircraft gates and a new parking garage.
The airport is also raising its parking rates. Hourly rates will rise to $2 from $1. Daily rates at closer-in garages will rise to $20 from $17.

Buy a camera from a vending machine
Dallas/Fort Worth International has opened Best Buy-branded vending machines. Located in Terminals B and E, the machines sell items from the electronic goods retailer and charge "the same prices as customers would find at any Best Buy on the street," according to the airport.
Each machine sells products and accessories that are small enough for vending, such as MP3 players, cameras and memory cards.
