2 dead, 2 deputies shot while responding to domestic violence shooting

The suspect is also deceased, authorities said.

Two people are dead and two deputies are in critical condition following an alleged domestic violence shooting at a Washington residence on Tuesday, according to officials.

Deputies responded to a reported domestic violence shooting at a residence after a woman said she had been shot and needed medical attention, according to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, who had fled the residence to a neighbor's house, reported her brother had shot her and she said there were others in the house that she felt were "threatened," Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said at a press conference Tuesday.

The woman was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Nowels.

Arriving deputies learned that the suspect had an active felony warrant for his arrest, that he may have access to additional weapons and there were possibly other victims, the sheriff's office said.

At the scene, deputies used a drone to locate a person who was down in the yard. That person was later determined to be dead, according to Nowels.

The Spokane County SWAT Team and deputies approached the house out of concern for at least one other victim believed to be in the house with the suspect. When they attempted to breach the door, shots were fired from inside the home and two deputies were critically injured, according to Nowels and the sheriff's office.

Deputies returned fire and worked to move the severely injured deputies to a position of cover and provide medical aid, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect and one other person who was inside the house appear to be dead, in addition to the person found in the yard, according to Nowels.
