2 students on school bus killed in crash during field trip in Tennessee: Authorities
Three vehicles, including the bus, were involved in the crash, authorities said.
Two students are dead after their school bus crashed during a field trip in Tennessee on Friday, authorities said.
The crash occurred in Carroll County around noon on Friday, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Three vehicles were involved in the crash: a school bus from Montgomery County, a Tennessee Department of Transportation dump truck and a Chevrolet Trailblazer, authorities said.
"The details of the crash are still ongoing," Tennessee Highway Patrol Maj. Travis Plotzer said at a press briefing on Friday, adding that it doesn't appear the dump truck "had any contributing factors to the crash."
Two students on the school bus were pronounced dead at the scene, Plotzer said. There were 25 students total and five adults on the bus, he said.
Two adults were in the dump truck and one in the Chevrolet Trailblazer, authorities said.
The crash prompted a large emergency response, including multiple ambulances and ambulance helicopters that transported victims to hospitals in Memphis, Nashville and Dickson, authorities said. Officials have not released any details on the injuries or the students killed in the crash.
"I ask for everybody to continue to keep those families in your prayers, and I ask that you also keep all our first responders in your prayers, because they've witnessed some stuff today that they'll remember for the rest of their lives," Carroll County Sheriff Andy Dickson said during the briefing.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Highway 70 and Cedar Grove in Carroll County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The investigation is ongoing.
The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System said students from Kenwood Middle School were headed to Jackson, Tennessee, for the field trip.
"This is a bad day in Montgomery County," the county's mayor, Wes Golden, said in a statement. "Prayer is absolutely needed right now."
