Dangerous heat hits West Coast, Southwest

The temperature is not expected to drop below 90 degrees in parts of California.

Millions of people in the West Coast and Southwest are under extreme heat warnings Friday as temperatures top 90 degrees.

High temperatures could reach the upper 90s in Los Angeles, the 110s for Palm Springs, Yuma, Arizona, and Phoenix, and near 108 for Las Vegas and Tucson, according to the forecast.

This heat comes a day after Las Vegas broke its all-time daily high temperature, 111 degrees, and two cities in Texas tied their record highs: 107 degrees in Laredo and 105 degrees in McAllen.

Residents who are in these areas are encouraged to avoid the outdoors during the peak temperatures and conserve energy.

By Sunday, Los Angeles will return to the 80s for high temps and Phoenix will cool down to its normal high temp for this time of year around 105. Las Vegas may only reach the upper 90s on Monday. 

The heat will head east, with extree temps and humidity returning.
