A 37-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday morning in Minneapolis -- the second shooting of a U.S. citizen this month by federal agents in the city.

The shooting of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, ratcheted up tensions, as protesters clashed in the streets with law enforcement in the aftermath of the shooting.

The incident followed the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, on Jan. 7.

Dem effort to impeach Noem gains 50 cosponsors following Pretti killing

Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., said Tuesday she now has 162 cosponsors on her effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. That's 50 more since Alex Pretti was killed in a shooting involving federal agents, she said.

No Republicans have signed on so far.

"With me stands 162 House Democrats ready to impeach Secretary Noem, but we need the majority of Congress to open their eyes to her brutality and unconstitutional actions," Kelly said Tuesday.

"Well, I haven't heard that, but he shouldn't have been carrying a gun," he responded while talking with reporters in Iowa.

Earlier in the day, a reporter told him that Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller labeled the nurse an "assassin." Trump responded, "No," when the reporter asked him if he thought Pretti "was acting as an assassin in Minneapolis."

The president also addressed a question by Scott about pulling federal officers out of Minnesota.

"We'll do whatever's appropriate," he said.

House, Senate hearings set next month with top ICE, CBP and USCIS officials

Top officials from three Homeland Security agencies are set to testify next month in public hearings before House and Senate committees.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Todd Lyons, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, and Joseph Edlow, director of Citizenship and Immigration Services, will appear before the House Homeland Security Committee on Feb. 10, according to GOP Chairman Andrew Garbarino.

The hearing "will provide an opportunity to conduct oversight of each agency and ensure they are fulfilling their duty to protect the homeland," an advisory stated.

"Transparency and communication are needed to turn the temperature down," Garbarino said in a statement.

Two days later, the three officials will testify publicly before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, according to Committee Chairman Rand Paul.

The development comes a day after Paul sent letters to all three requesting their appearance before the committee.

Garbarino also formally requested that the officials testify following the deadly shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis over the weekend.
