Trump admin updates: Trump says tariff letters to be sent to 'various countries' on Monday

Rep. Andy Harris, chair of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, reiterated his threat that hardline Republicans will tank a key procedural vote on Trump's mega bill and stop the legislation’s progress dead in its tracks.

The vote is expected within the hour, but could slide later.

Some Freedom Caucus members have been shuttling from the Capitol to the White House today to meet with the president and administration officials on the bill. Harris’ members are particularly incensed the Senate version of the bill is estimated to increase the national debt by $1 trillion more than the House version.

"It can't get passed by Friday unless the Senate's in town," Harris told ABC News.

"The rule vote will fail if he brings it to the floor, and at some point he's going to have to decide whether it pays to try to make changes, get it back over the Senate. Right now, what the president should be doing is calling the Senate back into town," he added.

The House is wrapping up the rule debate after dozens of Democrats tried to delay moving forward on the GOP spending bill.

The vote series will start soon, and the third vote of the series is on adopting the rule to provide floor consideration for the Trump megabill.

During Wednesday's rule debate, members of the Congressional Black Caucus huddled on the House floor, and one-by-one asked for unanimous consent to amend the "rule" and insert statements of opposition to the spending bill.

“Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to amend the rule to make an order the amendment at the desk that protects against any cuts to Medicaid and SNAP,” Democrat after Democrat said on the floor.

Democratic leaders encouraged their caucus to participate in the effort to delay floor movement on the Republican bill.

Prior to this effort, several Democrats voiced strong opposition to the bill, including New York Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“This bill is a deal with the devil. It explodes our national debt. It militarizes our entire economy, and it strips away health care and basic dignity of the American people for what? To give Elon Musk a tax break," she said.

A White House Office of Management and Budget representative on Wednesday gave a statement on the administration's $6 billion pause to federal funding for after school, student support, teacher training and English Language programs.

They said no final decision has been made about the money as the administration conducts its "ongoing programmatic review of education funding."

The representative claimed that the money was "grossly misused to subsidize a radical leftwing agenda."
