Trump admin updates: Trump says tariff letters to be sent to 'various countries' on Monday

President Trump on Thursday spoke with reporters and reiterated his appreciation to Republicans who voted in favor of the bill.

"Great for security, great on the southern border. Immigration is covered. We covered just about everything. Again, it's the biggest bill ever signed of its kind," he said.

Trump claimed he didn't have a problem negotiating with the holdouts in the end.

"No deals. What I did is we talked about how good the bill is. I mean, that's a deal, I guess, when you think about it," he said.

Trump also thanked Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for their work.

Former President Joe Biden criticized the passage of President Trump's spending bill on X.

"The Republican budget bill is not only reckless -- it's cruel. It slashes Medicaid and takes away health care from millions of Americans. It closes rural hospitals and cuts food assistance for our veterans and seniors," Biden wrote. "It jacks up energy bills. And it could trigger deep cuts to Medicare while driving up the deficit by $4 trillion. All of this to give a massive tax break to billionaires. Working people deserve better."

President Trump will sign the megabill at 5 p.m. on Friday, which is also the Fourth of July, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters during a background call shortly after the House passed the bill on Thursday.

Leavitt added that it will be a "big, beautiful signing ceremony" for the legislation that was originally called the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" by Republicans and the president, before Senate Democrats had the name stricken from the text.

Leavitt said that the legislation will restore “fiscal sanity” to the country.

The White House declared "VICTORY!" just after the House passed President Trump's megabill agenda on Thursday. The message came in a social media post from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt as the bill will now head to the president's desk for signing.
