Man charged in Florida for allegedly threatening Jews: Feds
The suspect allegedly displayed weapons on social media videos, prosecutors say.
A Florida man was charged with allegedly wanting to "hunt Jews" after the FBI investigated social media videos the suspect purportedly made showing off various weapons, including a flamethrower, while making threats, according to court documents unsealed Tuesday.
Duncan MacDonald, of Sarasota, allegedly posted videos on his Instagram story feed between Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 showing off firearms, ammunition, accessories and tactical gear in a "hardware room" of a residence, according to the criminal complaint filed in the Middle District of Florida.
Someone who knew MacDonald took screen captures of the videos, according to the complaint, and flagged them to authorities. After receiving the videos, the FBI began its probe, according to the complaint.
In one of the alleged videos, MacDonald filmed different racks of firearms and stated, "we're over here gonna hunt Jews," the complaint said.
In another alleged video, he showed off a flamethrower and a high-powered rifle, according to the complaint.
MacDonald also allegedly had a tactical vest and said "ping ping bulletproof vests, also locked and loaded," in another alleged video, the complaint said.
In another alleged video, MacDonald is seen standing near another man who held a pistol and claimed it was his nephew, according to the complaint.
The person who flagged the posts sent text messages to MacDonald in which the suspect allegedly made reference to Shabbat services, the complaint said.
When the complainant informed MacDonald that he had informed the FBI and the press, MacDonald allegedly texted back "LMAO," according to the complaint.
MacDonald has been charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure.
Attorney information was not immediately available.
