Milo Yiannopoulos, far-right British commentator, detained by ICE

Far-right British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency said Friday.

Yiannopoulos was arrested at New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.

The spokesperson said in a statement that Yiannopoulos legally entered the country in 2019 and allegedly "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws."

"Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal," the spokesperson said.

Attorney information for Yiannopoulos was not immediately available.

Yiannopoulos has been a prominent far-right figure online and has drawn major criticism for his outspoken views.
