Driver crashes Tesla into scaffolding in midtown Manhattan, killing passenger: Poilce
Two 27-year-old females were in the vehicle when it crashed.
A driver crashed into scaffolding in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning, killing the vehicle's passenger, according to police.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that a gray 2024 Tesla Model Y SUV driven by a 27-year-old female collided with scaffolding, a bus stop and a mailbox at approximately 2:43 a.m. on Wednesday, a New York Police Department spokesperson told ABC News.
The driver was also injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, according to police.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Alejandra Paharsingh of Westbury, Connecticut, was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and driving while impaired, according to New York ABC station WABC.
The passenger who was killed was identified as 27-year-old Elise Suomi of Harlem, according to WABC.
The driver was traveling eastbound on East 42nd Street and failed to navigate the roadway, police said earlier.
The heavily damaged Tesla was shown by traffic cameras in the street where the vehicle came to a stop after traveling several blocks following the initial collision, police said.
The NYPD's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is handling the investigation.
