Today's Tax Tip: Mark Your Calendars

Mar. 5, 2001 -- Mark your calendars. The tax deadline is approaching.

Listen to today's tax tip.

Don Roberts of the Internal Revenue Service says its been pushed back a little this year: "You get one extra day because April 15th falls on a Sunday so the deadline nationwide will be April 16th for getting your taxes filed."

Taxpayers who live in New England don't have to file until April 17 because of the Regional Patriots Day holiday. The deadline day is different this year, but that's about all.

"There are a few things that are different, but by and large, people are not going to see a lot of difference on their tax forms," says Roberts. "When they look at their return this year and compare it to last year's they are going to find all the same lines they found before."

You will find a checkbox on the new tax forms that allows the IRS to discuss any processing problems directly with the tax professional you may have use to help prepare your return.
