Oldest 'N Sync Member Turns 30
Oct. 17, 2001 -- 'N Sync may need to slow down those dance moves a bit now that member Chris Kirkpatrick is entering his 30s.
The dark-haired, goatee-sporting singer is celebrating his 30th birthday today.
That sort of old age would never have been acceptable in the group's teen pop predecessors, Menudo, but for 'N Sync there is no age limit.
Kirkpatrick may be the oldest of the quintet, but that doesn't mean he's always the wisest.
"Everybody makes mistakes," said Kirkpatrick. "Oh geez, I cursed on TV, am I like an evil person now? No. Y'know, I just made a mistake."
Fame and fortune may tempt other celebrities to entertain a wild lifestyle, but not these guys. Kirkpatrick says he and his fellow singers try to keep it clean, while telling their young fans that — like non-pop stars — they are not perfect.
"We try to convey to everybody that we're just learning just like everyone else," said Kirkpatrick. "We're on this planet to be here, y'know, as humans."
'N Sync joins Aerosmith and the Backstreet Boys at Sunday's fund-raising concert "United We Stand: What More Can I Give," at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The event will benefit the American Red Cross Relief Fund, the Pentagon Relief Fund and the Salvation Army Relief Fund.
