Sinead O'Connor to Tie the Knot Again

June 25, 2001 -- Irish pop singer Sinéad O'Connor is to marry British journalist Nick Sommerlad, the Irish Sun newspaper reported in today's editions.

"Yes, we're getting married. I'm delighted and so is she," Sommerlad, 27, a reporter with the national news agency Press Association, was quoted as telling the newspaper.

O'Connor, 34, who is divorced and has two children, has had several highly publicized affairs with journalists, having split most recently with diarist Dermot Hayes after what was reported to be a two-year relationship.

The Irish singer made headlines in the 1990s when she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, and for refusing to perform in New Jersey if the U.S. national anthem was played before her appearance.

More recently, the confused singer was ordained as a priest in a breakaway Catholic sect and declared that she was a lesbian.
