Boy Drowns in Tommy Lee's Pool

June 18, 2001 -- A 4-year-old boy died Saturday during a birthday party for one of rocker Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson's sons. The boy, Daniel Karven Veres, apparently drowned in the shallow end of a pool at Lee's Malibu, Calif., home.

An autopsy was performed after Veres' death, which was ruled an accident on Sunday, police said.

The child, who had apparently been swimming with several other children, was found floating face down in the shallow end of the pool.

According to police, Lee called rescue workers to his home in the late afternoon. Two adults at the party tried to resuscitate the child while waiting for an ambulance, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The boy's father, James Veres, a television producer, told a local radio station on Sunday that more people should have been hired to supervise the children and called his son's death "inexcusable."

It was not clear whether the birthday party was being held for Lee's older son, Brandon, who turned 5 on June 5. Brandon's brother, Dylan, will turn 4 on Dec. 29.

Lee is the former drummer and founding member of heavy metal band Mötley Crüe.
