Hollywood Spago Closing

L O S A N G E L E S, Jan. 26, 2001 -- A glitzy Hollywood fixture is closing itsdoors.

Spago Hollywood is closing at the end of March. The restaurantquickly became the watering hole of choice for celebrities and dealmakers when it opened 19 years ago.

Spago also made a star out of its flamboyant chef-owner WolfgangPuck.

But lately, its reputation has been eclipsed by Puck's newer andtrendier Spago Beverly Hills.

And tourists in casual dress can now be seen at tables that wereonce reserved strictly for Hollywood's elite.

Puck says the eatery was also in need of costly renovations. But he says Spago Hollywood will go out in style, with a seriesof farewell galas.
