Dot-com Sues Chris Rock
December 20, 2000 -- A lot of floundering dot-coms give lame excuses for losing millions of dollars, like "Our venture capital was pulled after two months" or "Pet toys just don't sell like we thought they would." But one dot-com is blaming comedian Chris Rock for a nearly $1.1 million loss.
Entertainment content site Z.com filed suit against Rock in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, according to Inside.com. The Web-based company claims that Rock and his company, Chris Rock Enterprises, failed to deliver original content they agreed to provide for Z.com, even though the company paid the fee.
According to Z.com's suit, the company sees the lawsuit as the only way to recoup the money it paid Rock. The tech firm will also seek interest in addition to repayment of the original $1.075 million it says it paid Rock April 10.
"We remain optimistic that we're going to be able to find a way to get this resolved," Z.com CEO Joe DiNunzio told Inside.
Rock's office did not return calls.
