'Blade Runner' Mystery Solved

L O N D O N, July 10, 2000 -- Film director Ridley Scott hasfinally solved a big puzzle for movie buffs — yes, HarrisonFord was a “replicant” in Blade Runner.

The later “director’s cut” edition convinced many fansthat the cop character Deckard was a genetically engineeredreplicant, the creature he was assigned to destroy.

The original 1982 cult film aroused no such suspicions.

Now Scott has put fans out of their agony, confirming with agrin in a British television documentary: “He’s a replicant.”

“I still think it is one of the best films I ever made,”said the British director, maker of Alien, Thelma andLouise and Gladiator.

“You re-visit it constantly like re-reading one of yourfavorite books. You always find you get sucked in again,” hetold the Channel 4 documentary.
