1st look at new Princess Diana exhibition in US
The exhibition includes the last dress Diana is known to have tried on.
A collection of more than 700 items belonging to the late Princess Diana, including some of her most memorable clothes, is going on display for the first time in the United States.
The exhibit, "Diana: Love Life Legacy - A Life of Giving," will open this weekend at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California.
Among the items on display is Jacques Azagury's "Final Goodbye" Dress, the last gown Diana tried on before her death on Aug. 31, 1997, following a car crash in Paris.
The exhibit marks the first time the "Final Goodbye" dress has gone on public display, according to the museum.
Among the other pieces of Diana's wardrobe on display are the princess's famous Warm & Wonderful black sheep sweater, designed by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, and a floral dress dubbed the "caring dress," because Diana wore it most often on visits to hospitals.
The "caring dress" sold for $500,000 at auction last year.
In addition to clothing, the exhibit features keepsakes from Diana's childhood and her royal life, including the official program from her 1981 wedding to then-Prince Charles, as well as her wedding slippers.
Diana and Charles, who is now King Charles III, welcomed two sons, Princes William and Harry, before divorcing in 1996.
Given its location at the Reagan Museum, the exhibition also features items from the archives of the late former president Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan, who hosted Diana and Charles on a state visit at the White House in 1985.
The off-the-shoulder velvet gown Diana wore to a White House state dinner on that visit -- during which she famously danced with John Travolta -- is also on display.
The "Diana: Love Life Legacy - A Life of Giving" exhibition runs through May 31 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California.
