How to find the perfect summer sunglasses for your face shape

It's National Sunglasses Day -- time to shop summer eyewear.

As we celebrate National Sunglasses Day today, it's the perfect time to update your summer eyewear.

Sunglasses with UV protection help keep our eyes protected and also add an instant cool factor to any look.

We tapped style expert Denise Caldwell for her "sunnies" tips and summer trends to complement every face shape.

Caldwell said the perfect shape of shades is like "Spanx for the face" because "the right selection of a frame silhouette and style will balance your features and flatter your face."

Square

If you have a square face, Caldwell suggest looking for round frames. "Round frames have taken a more modern turn from past seasons. A round design will make your cheekbones pop and compliment your chin," she said.

Round

For those with round faces, square frames are the right move. "This will compliment both your hairline and jawline creating symmetry and making the face appear slightly slimmer and less round," Caldwell explained. "It's a classic frame shape, yet the linear fit will make you feel super glamorous."

Heart-shaped

With a heart-shaped face, think aviators. "This style gives you a little edge mixed with classic, just think Tom Cruise in 'Top Gun,'" she added. "Some aviators have a slightly smaller frame, but they compliment your forehead and balance your unique facial features."

Oval

Lucky enough for our oval faced friends, anything goes! Caldwell loves the cat-eye or classic wayfarer style for an oval face this season. "Feel free to experiment!" she said. "Regardless of the shape you pick for your sunnies, wear them with confidence and have fun with fashion this summer!"
