Just in time to get in the mood for fall, "Girls" star Jemima Kirke and "Girl Meets World" star Rowan Blanchard have paired up to star in the brand new Marc Jacobs pre-fall collection and its tie-in short film, "The Swap."
The short (which you can watch on YouTube) is the latest installment in an ongoing series called "Question Marc," a storytelling series meant to blend fashion, entertainment, and culture, and sees Kirke and Blanchard seated next to one another at Jacobs' recent off-calendar runway show at the New York Public Library.
A bag mixup ensues, as both women are carrying The Scene medium shoulder bag in Dark Port. Kirke opens the bag upon leaving the show only to discover a sage wand in lieu of her own personal effects, leading to a hectic chase centered on one fabulous photo of the two seated front row as the only clue to the other's whereabouts.
Playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris makes a brief cameo, too, and we have to wonder if this hints at the plot to unfold as future installments arrive throughout the fall season.
"A woman doesn't carry her entire life in her bag, only the things she needs on the off chance that something happens," Kirke explained in a press release about the project, adding, "This campaign is a storybook homage to a New York woman and the ways she lives her day to day, about two opposite women looking for one another in a massive city. As native New Yorkers they're able to find the common ground by paying attention to the details."
Blanchard said in a statement, "This project is imaginative, character-driven and fun. That's what makes it feel so Marc Jacobs -- it doesn't take itself too seriously."
This sense of playful irreverence is core to Jacobs' design philosophy and evident throughout the current collection. Models in the campaign are styled wearing tube socks and ladylike bow pumps with leopard coats and lace-trimmed skirts. Plaid prints and sophisticated coats, along with Jacobs' eternally popular bags, add weight and wearability to the looks, offering real-world ways to wear the pieces.
