June 6 2004 -- Former President Ronald Reagan died Saturday after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

The former president died his Los Angeles home, according to a family spokeswoman. The cause of death was pneumonia complicated by Alzheimer's disease, the spokeswoman said.

After hearing of Reagan's death, President Bush, the son of Reagan's former vice president, called it a "sad day for America."
